Good communication skills within a business are vital to its success. Sometimes failures in a business can be traced to poor communication skills. It is crucial that the information that is trying to be conveyed without misunderstanding or confusion. In the setting of giving information to large numbers of people avoiding misunderstandings matters much.
In the business arena, communication skills can be broken down into a process. This process starts with the sender of the information. The sender has to have credibility for the message to be received by its intended recipient. In business, this involves displaying a good knowledge of the subject, the audience and the context in which the message is articulated.
One of the communication skills that a sender needs is that he or she must know their audience. Failure to know or understand the audience of the message can result in misunderstanding

The message being delivered also has to have communication skills applied to it. If the message is too lengthy, it will not be received properly, likewise if the message is too short. It is important to remember that communication skills have aspects of intellect and emotion and those aspects must be considered in the message.
Choosing the proper method for conveying a message is also a part of communication skills. Sometimes a face-to-face meeting is appropriate for the message while other times a conference call is all that is needed. It is also okay to consider that a message is best delivered written, thus eliminating the emotion aspect.
Communication skills extend to the audience of the message. You should remember that the audience came to the message with preconceived ideas that will influence their interpretation of the message. Your communication skills come into play strongly at that point.
Receiving feedback is another part of communication skills. Listening to the audience after a message is delivered will help guide your answers to better clarify your position. If there were any misunderstandings, they will appear during the feedback after your message.
