Our Home Communication System
By
My daughter spends entirely too much time using the communication system at home. She is on it constantly. I think that I woke up the other morning and found her on the communication system first thing.
I have decided that we need to have rules in our house concerning the communication system. I have instituted a curfew of sorts for the communication system. There will be no calls before 10AM and no calls after 10pm. Also off limit time will include dinner.
Last week my boss came to our house for dinner and the communication system rang constantly through dinner. I was so embarrassed. My daughter felt the need to dash over to the communication system to see who it was that was calling on the Caller ID.
I think that every house needs a communication system. I just don't think that it should be in constant operation.

I think that the time that my daughter spends on the communication system is time that she is not spending quality time with her parents or siblings.
My parents used to complain about my excessive use of the communication system when I was a teenager. I thought that they were just picking on me and didn't understand my social circles or needs. I spent a lot of time wishing I was on the communication system when my dad was lecturing me.
I think that it is an entirely different matter now, though. My daughter just doesn't understand how rude it is to try to have a conversation with her when the communication system is attached to her ear. Right now her reaction to my new rules is outright defiance. She is pretty sure that I can't stop her from using the communication system.
She is probably right; it is going to impossible to enforce the communication system rules. I trusted that she still respected me enough to just do what I asked. I'm hoping that everything will work itself out. My younger daughter and my son will be teenagers soon and I do not want to expand our communication system to include multiple phone lines.
